A career gemmologist, and the designer at Fine Jewellery By Colette.
Colette opened the store in 2002. Everything in it is chosen or designed by her.
For forty years she has helped people find and create jewellery they love: jewellery to wear every day, jewellery for the moments that matter, and jewellery that has been in the family for generations.
Forty years in jewellery
Before she opened her own store, Colette worked in gemmological laboratories and auction houses, at antique-jewellery tradeshows, as a freelance appraiser and designer for other jewellers, as a buyer for dealers in the trade, and as a teacher. She is qualified as a gemmologist to Canadian, American and British standards.
That background shapes what she buys and designs for the store. It also shapes what she tells you about each item.
Drawn by hand
Colette designs every custom item herself. She draws it by hand, in front of you and to exact scale. Her jeweller builds from that drawing.
Before anything is made, you see and approve a wax model in person. Nothing is made sight unseen.
How Colette works
She listens first
The conversation starts with what you want, not with what is in the case. Colette takes the time to understand it before she suggests anything.
She tells you plainly
You hear what Colette really thinks, about a gemstone, a design, or a repair that is not worth doing. She would rather say so than promise.
Trust runs both ways
Tell Colette what you want and what you would like to spend, and she will tell you what is possible. Many of her clients were introduced by someone who already trusts her.
